This trouble shooting guide refers to the iPhone screen being unresponsive to touch.
Several factors can trigger the iPhone screen to be unresponsive to touch, especially after a new system software update.
Apps left open or suspended during the system update will likely go rogue. Any rogue apps can also cause conflicts with other apps and system functions.
If there are a lot of apps running in the background, your iPhone may also experience this problem. Pressing the Home button or swiping up to go back to the Home screen won’t close the apps. Instead, they will continue to run in the background. The more apps running, the slower your iPhone becomes, which may lead to crashes and freezes.
If background apps were not closed before the update or you have a lot of apps running in the background, try the following:
End all background apps, then restart your iPhone.
For iPhone 8 and earlier devices, follow these steps:
- Double-click the Home button to show app cards/previews
- Swipe up on the app’s preview to close the app.
- Do this for all open apps.
For iPhone X up to the recent models, follow these:
- Swipe up from the bottom of the Home screen, stop when your finger reaches the middle, and pause until the app cards/previews show up.
- Swipe up on the card preview to force close individual apps.
- Do this for all open apps.
Restart your phone.
